NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING - April 6, 2012 at 8:30 a.m., Public Utilities Board Room - 3901 Orange Street

CITY OF RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES DEPARTMENT PROPOSED ADOPTION OF WATER RULES AND RATES
For over 100 years, the delivery of safe and reliable water to its customers has been an essential service of the City of Riverside Public Utilities Department (RPU). Our water supplies primarily come from underground sources fed by melting snow from the San Bernardino Mountains. RPU is now developing additional safe, reliable, local, sustainable, and cost effective water supplies. Part of this water supply will be recycled water, which will be used to irrigate landscaping and recharge local groundwater levels for RPU wells. RPU has developed a recycled water charge to pay for the costs of added facilities, ensuring that Riverside customers have reliable sources of water for generations to come.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Article XIIID of the California Constitution, RPU is proposing to adopt the following increases to the City’s Water Rates, for water service to the parcel for which you are shown as record owner directly liable to pay such rate.

(1) A monthly recycled water charge based on meter size to all water rates of approximately $2.00 for residential and non-residential customers with meter sizes from 5/8” to 3/4”, effective May 1, 2012 (except for WA-2, WA-5, WA-8, and WA-10 rates). A monthly recycled water charge for other meters, ranging from $3.34 to $333.34, will be levied and will be dependent on the size of the meter.

(2) An increase to the monthly recycled water charge based on meter size to all water rates of approximately $2.00 for residential and non-residential customers with meter sizes from 5/8” to 3/4”, effective May 1, 2013 (except for WA-2, WA-5, WA-8 and WA-10 rates). An increase to the recycled water monthly charge for other meters, ranging from $3.34 to $333.34, will be levied and will be dependent on the size of the meter.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that on April 6, 2012, at 8:30 a.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, at the Public Utilities Boardroom, located at 3901 Orange Street, Riverside, the Board of Public Utilities will conduct a public hearing on the proposed adoption of the recycled water charge. At the time of the public hearing, the Board of Public Utilities will hear and consider all protests and objections concerning these matters and will consider the specified charges. To be considered, written comments and protests must be delivered in person to the City Clerk at City Hall, 3900 Main Street, Riverside, California, 92522, prior to the conclusion of the public hearing. Written comments and protests may also be mailed to the City Clerk at the above-mentioned address, but must be received prior to conclusion of the public hearing.
