RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A 27-year veteran of the City of Anaheim is joining the Riverside Board of Public Utilities.
Darrell Ament, the assistant general manager-administration and finance with Anaheim Public Utilities before he retired to private business 15 years ago, was sworn in last night at a Riverside city council meeting. He replaces outgoing board chairman Robert Stockton, who has served with the board for six years.
Ament’s first board meeting will be March 5, when the board votes for new annual officers.
Ament’s background is extensive. As assistant general manager of Anaheim Public Utilities, he managed a budget of more than $150 million and 100 employees. He played a key role in raising approximately $15 billion through Wall Street investors for Western U.S. electric and water utility projects. Since his retirement, he concentrated on his import/export business with many contacts in North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. For the last five years, he and his wife have owned and managed a business and financial consulting firm, Asia West, with focus on U.S. companies wanting to manufacture in and sell products in China.
“I have a history of volunteering where I think I can be of some use,” Ament said. “When I moved to Riverside two years ago, I was impressed by the changes going on. I love to be part of innovation and I look forward to contributing in Riverside.”
He sees many similar issues affecting Riverside Public Utilities that faced Anaheim.
“It’s all about tapping into our knowledge to meet the challenges of providing reliable low-cost electric and water service to Riverside residents and businesses,” he said. “What has impressed me about Riverside is how we’re implementing new technologies, such as solar. We have to work together with long-range planning to help the process of innovation.”
The board meets the first and third Fridays of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Riverside Public Utilities Board Room, 3901 Orange Street |
